Its My Anniversary... but Im not bothering with chocolates or flowers! It was 7 years ago today that I joined Smooth Radio and the station will always have a very special place in my heart. After a really enjoyable couple of years on the south coast with Wave 105 little did I know how life changing my move back to the midlands would be. I started at Smooth in Birmingham on the 17th September 2007, two days later I met the woman destined to become my wife and with whom I’d have the greatest experience of my life - being a father to Martha and George. In 2010 I was fortunate enough to be chosen as part of the new national team on Smooth and with the move to Manchester I got to relocate to a part of the country I’d always loved and wanted to explore. I worked alongside many of the talented broadcasters I’d admired since my youth - it was surreal working and socialising with the likes of Kid Jensen, Andy Peebles and Simon Bates. With my shows on the national network came the added pleasure of hearing from many listeners from parts of the country in which I’d worked since starting my career in 1982. Following ownership changes I had the experience of working in London, at one of the biggest radio groups in the world; consequently being reunited with many old colleagues and friends from the past. More recently it’s been delightful returning to the glorious setting of the Smooth studios in Salford Quays and to being back home with my family and many of the friends I have made since joining Smooth 7 years ago. If you’ve listened to my shows, you’ve been a colleague or become a friend during this period of my life I just want to say thanks for helping make the Smooth years so special. C x
