Its Shilohs birthday today! October 10th, 2008, the world gained a really rad little soul. He has been I instrumental in helping Louie adjust to post lab life by showing him the ropes of mooching, sleeping, begging, napping and barking at things on their sidewalk. I rescued Shiloh from an abusive family when he was just 7 months old. I had just moved back out to California from Michigan and my family was back home. I had friends out here but still felt lonely and just in need of family. Shiloh is the best family I could have ever asked for. He had a pretty severe back injury and was quick to flinch away from raised hands and loud voices. I was younger and at the time was only making $12/hour. He needed a home though or he was going to the shelter and would have been put down. I have no idea how I made it work, feeding the two of us and taking care of his medical needs. I know I struggled. He always got the best and I would sacrifice so that he could be taken care of. I have no regrets. Now, we are leaps and bounds away from just trying to make ends meet. Now, he is spoiled with overpriced birthday cake and hand made toys. At the end of the day, though, his companionship has meant more to me than anything. My mom is fond of saying that we saved each other. He kept me from abandoning my dreams and gave me all the love I could want. Hopefully, I make him feel half as loved as he makes me feel. Lou man and I are so fortunate to have this silly, birthday hat hating dude in our lives.
