Its a little bizarre that a team that has Robin Van Persie, Wayne - TopicsExpress

Its a little bizarre that a team that has Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in it looked like such a damp squib last season. They have so much fire-power, but still somehow lack cutting edge. The only possible deduction, is that theyre not getting the service they need to keep producing the goods. I cant help but feel that Manchester United were massively let down by their wingers last season. With Nani desperately trying to make as little impact as possible at Old Trafford and Ashley Young doing his best to copy him, its clear that this is a problem position for Manchester United. Its not like any of the clubs other options are providing the goods either. Whilst Antonio Valencia is still capable of the occasional good game, hes also largely inconsistent. I wouldnt be surprised if Louis Van Gaal has made signing a world class winger his top summer priority. After all, adding a little more threat down the flanks could breathe fresh life into this Manchester United side. It could well set The Red Devils back on the path to glory. Thats why I was delighted to see The Mirror claim that Van Gaals principle summer transfer target is Barcelona ace, Alexis Sanchez. The fleet-footed Chilean international is inordinately talented and considerable better than Uniteds current options. In this respect, Sanchez would represent a serious upgrade. Last season Sanchez made 54 appearances for Barcelona scoring 21 goals and making 15 assists. Hes remarkably effective for a winger. This combined with his pace and technical ability make him a real catch. Unfortunately The Mirror doesnt indicate how much Sanchez might cost Manchester United. Given his performances last season, I doubt Barcelona will be willing to let him go on the cheap. Its up to Uniteds top brass to tempt Barca into selling by making them an offer they cant refuse. Its time for Van Gaal and co. to put their money where their mouth is. After all, with Alexis Sanchez charging at defenders next season, Manchester United are likely to be considerably more effective next year. Whats your take?
