Its a pleasure to watch Aslan repeatedly, but gently, sledgehammer this key point home. Very, very well-played on a major news outlet; he has some impressive skills. I hope at least a few people were listening. Edit: there is one thing Id change about the way he said it, though. The problem of generalizing Muslims isnt far from the problem of generalizing nations, and he does a fair amount of that. I dont know if he didnt realize it, or it he was just self-editing for brevity, or if that was a meta level that was just too much for CNN. Im reminded of this quote, which I know basically nothing about other than that I saw it and I liked it: When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence.
