Its a proven fact that if a person financially benefits from a decision they need to make, they will find a reason to justify selecting the choice that enriches them. Some years ago, researchers monitored two sets of medical docs working in the same specialty. I believe it was OB-Gyn. One set had a financial interest in a private MRI company that charged $500 per MRI. Each time a patient had an MRI, each doctor received a percentage. The second set of docs had no financial interest in a private MRI company. The doctors in the first set were four times more likely to recommend their patient undergo an MRI. In other words, for every 80 patients the first set would send, the second set only sent 20. Greed. It was easy for George W. to decide to send troops to Iraq; he and his Texas oil buddies benefitted. It was easy for Dick Cheney to decide to send troops to Iraq; he and his fellow Halliburton buddies made millions. Give a politician -- Democrat or Republican -- a financial incentive when making an important choice, and theyll almost always vote for whatever enriches them personally, not for whats best for you and me.
