Its a very complex thing, on the one hand I feel the whole capitalism & charity thing is a futile gesture in a messed up world - but what is the alternative? even if something as disgusting as 5% was all the truly needy get to see, this is better than the nothing they would have received otherwise. so I find it hard to find a problem. OF COURSE several fat cats will get rich off the back of your gesture. that is the way the world works, in case you hadnt realised pretty much EVERYTHING you do lines the pockets of corporations! from flushing the toilet to getting ill and paying prescription charges. It is a sad fact that so many will only consider helping others as a part of a vulgar display of narcissism, and even more of a shame that something like 50% (according to survey) will complete the look at me bit without donating. but the net result of the whole shenanigan IS STILL money in the tin, even after non payers, fat cats, admin etc. So any hate would be misplaced here - Heres a thought, if all of us made actively caring about others (genuinely, not gesture care) on a day to day basis more of a priority the world may eventually right itself, and the very need for charity would become less.
