Its almost that time again. Time to kick back and think about the season ahead. What I love most about being a family is that we get to invent our own traditions. Who are we as a family and what do we stand for? How do we do Christmas? New Year? Easter? Birthdays? And everything in-between. In our home Christmas is big, the gifts not. Our kids get a small token gift, but they are not the focus. Yes, we all love giving our kids the desires of their hearts (which is somewhat shallow at this stage), but are we really doing them any favours? As a family we use the money that we would usually spend on ourselves (like we need more stuff!) to bless someone that actually needs it more. Our kids dont need more stuff. What they need is to learn how to be grateful and generous. Our family life needs to model this. Its a lifestyle thing, not only over Christmas, but throughout the year. The kids need to be involved in the planning, prepping and giving - this is how we cultivate sweet fruit. This is way more fun than receiving any gift! It brings us together and it comes with a joy that you cannot buy or manufacture. Happy planning!
