Its always exciting to find out about your familys background. Over the weekend, a nephew of mine saw my pirate pic and shared some family history I was aware of... but I had no name or history until Sunday. The first Cuban born pirate was one of my ancestors. He was Diego el Mulatto Grillo and was associated with Sir Francis Drake, until he commanded his own vessel and started to loot and pillage British and Spanish ships in the Caribbean and Gulf coast as far north as Galveston. I always wanted to be a pirate but dont know whether to be proud or what? Oh, my mothers maiden name was Grillo. But mama never talked about that side of her family.
