Its an annual tradition for me to remind facebook that Guy Fawkes was a Catholic conspirator trying to replace one (Protestant) Monarch with an 8 year old that they could use to turn the country back to Catholicism. If we shouldnt forget the Gun Powder plot, then we shouldnt forget the Ridolfi plot or the Throckmorton plot or the Spanish Armada or Mary I or the Pope or the Jesuits. Guy Fawkes day (written into a law of observance) is a day where youre supposed to burn him in effigy and thank god that were all still good Protestant Christians. Interesting tidbit. Guy Fawkes is where we get the word guy from. It was originally used as a synonym for the effigies that were burned but eventually became a pejorative meaning someone of grotesqueness.
