Its another moment of sober reflection. It is a moment of acknowledging and appreciating the efforts made by our parents, colleagues and friends. It is a period of identifying with those that have been made widows, widowers and orphans. It is a moment to remember the fallen, those that sacrificed their lives to protect their fatherland, those that gallantly decided to leave their family and loved ones behind in order to protect an entity. This period each year rekindles fresh memories of my late uncle, Major Ishaku Jibrin Bage who was cut in his prime. This period brings into mind my lovely and gallant room mate Utibe Ekong . This period brings into mind all the casualties of war. This periods reminds me of the inevitability of death, it also reminds me of Gods purpose in the life of every individual. For every man is destined to die once, however some individuals have decided to face death on behalf of their fellow brothers. That is gallantry, that is self sacrifice, that is courage!. Every profession contributes to our existence. Not all of us can be doctors, not all of us can be bankers , not all of us can be politicians, not all can be in the military. Every profession has its own risks and none can do without the other. As individuals with a lot of differences, we often derive joy in criticising or ridiculing other professions. We often get so carried away in our thoughts . Youll not learn to appreciate certain efforts until you lose someone close to you. Life is transient, protecting lives is a duty of all. As we remember our fallen heroes and those that have given their all to the service of our fatherland, let us also intercede on behalf of our nation. Let us not forget Gods promise.... If my people called by my name shall humble themselves and seek my face....... then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sins, and heal their land. The ball is in our court, because God never makes empty promises. May the souls of all departed keep resting in peace, may the Lord provide and comfort those that are left behind, may the Lord sustain and keep those that have successfully retired and above all may our land be healed. Amen!
