Its astonishing how little people know about the history of modern Israel. Even highly educated people. Absolutely gobsmacking. Of course that can be said about a host of other subjects. Which is sad. But the difference is that many are extremely confident that they actually know a lot about Israel, and they are willing to stake their reputations on their (uninformed) opinions. Academics are, by far, the biggest perpetrators in this regard. I expect there to be a wide range of opinions on the subject of Israel, and I welcome the entire range. But what I cannot stomach are uninformed opinions that are touted as serious arguments.
