Its been The Voice week and its hard to pick one last to close it - TopicsExpress

Its been The Voice week and its hard to pick one last to close it out because it means Im leaving out a couple of the most distinctive voices in country history--Hank Williams and Johnny Cash--along with the inimitable sound of Merle Haggard, the smooth tones of Glen Campbell and Eddy Arnold, the soaring tenors of David Houston and Vince Gill, the incomparable voice of George Strait, and the lesser-known but marvelous pipes of artists like Suzy Bogguss, Tommy Duncan, and Asleep at the Wheels Ray Benson. But I felt like the week had to include the Rolls Royce of Country Singers, as Casey Kasem once described George Jones. The Possum was at home singing upbeat, silly songs like White Lightning and Im a People but his best work was on slower, heart-wrenching ballads like this number-one from 1974. youtube/watch?v=9-hBAwaH6CI
