Its been a crazy month since we launched this page. In its infancy, the creators of the page were hoping for 800 likes. We hit 1000 in 24 hours and after the news of Banford broke this weekend, we are over 3500. Instead of one person, we have a team here, albeit a small one, trying to keep up on the news, analysis, and commentary. Big thanks go to those supporters with expertise in contract law, equity in sports, Title IX and so much more. They are helping our team keep digging for data. The national media is all over this and locally, we have it on good authority that the DNT is digging into data and records to do comprehensive reporting. It takes time to get access to data and good journalism is not done overnight. One of the things that stands out to us is that this issue has become so much more than the non-renewal of 4 very successful staff. It has become a international discussion of how we value women in athletics. Its become a discussion of how we view successful women and the double standards on how we expect them to behave. Through this page we have connected with other coaches and athletes that have experienced similar issues. We have connected with national organizations that work to make sure that the hard work women did over the last 40 years still maters. We are learning, though people that have reached out through this page in private messages, that this issue is also a reflection of the poor work-culture at the entire campus. Employees of all designations are afraid to speak up on the issues surrounding Miller as well as the myriad of other issues with in their respective departments. One former department head told us that morale is at an all time low. Many have told us they have been instructed to keep their heads down. There is as increasing attitude of no confidence towards the Chancellor and his ability to lead. Then theres the news that the Education students are out to dry because of the Us failure to do the paperwork required by the state so paying students could be licensed. Finally, we are posed with another big-picture question surrounding how the the University of MN and its Regents values, or doesnt, a campus so many of us love. These many layers are certainly a part of the picture that is the circus happening at UMD and are worth keeping in mind as we unravel the absolute mess Berlo has created in the athletic department. Thank you to all of you are participating in the support through comments, messages, likes, shares and taking what you learn here to your conversations with others. We absolutely can not let up.
