Its been a hard week or two. A lot of our paperwork expires in November, so we are updating it, which is a lot of work. Even though we are hoping to be either in Uganda or on our way home in November, we need to make sure nothing expires. Think of it like being in another country when your passport expires, only worse. The cost to update our home study and run our fingerprints again is $440, and our mandatory yellow fever vaccinations were $400. So when we thought we were at $600ish left to raise, it became $1400 again. We had hoped to make about $1000 on our pancake breakfast, but we only made $361. So after a lot of work, we still have $1000 to raise. I was REALLY discouraged Saturday, and I basically slept and watched tv and ate junk food all day. :) Sunday marked 7 weeks since hearing about Judah Samuel (we were told it could be 1 week or 8 weeks or anything until we heard again), so that is a hard wait as well, especially when its been almost two years since we started hoping for Baby 2 to come home. I have tried to be positive and trusting and not overwhelming with fundraising, and so far its worked. Our process has been fairly smooth; we have seen God open doors and provide in ways we didnt imagine or expect, and He has provided $34,000, which is more than either of us make in a year. We have been blown away. But here is the hard part. If adoption were Freytags Pyramid, which is a sort of plot structure predictor for stories, we are in the climax- before the falling action and before the resolution. The hard part. The unknown part. The costly part. The part where youre not quite sure how its going to turn out. In every story, you need this part. Otherwise, its a really boring story, which not many can relate to. Without the climax, there is not much basis for themes and character development and conflict resolution. In our story, people need to know that adoption is hard sometimes. Paying for it, maxing out savings, fundraising, trusting, ethical issues, unknowns of your childs health, behavior, history... Its hard. But without the hard, we wont learn the lessons, our character wont be developed, and the end of the story wont be nearly as beautiful. So here we are, feeling no closer to being a family of four than weeks ago, despite hard work and peoples generosity and a ton of pancakes; were in the climax. We are thankful that we know the Author of this adoption story who promises that the good He has started, He will bring it to completion. We are SO ready for the end of this story of an adoption of an orphan, and so ready for the beginning of a new story with our two boys. Hopefully the next update will be a little closer to the end of the story!
