Its been a hard year, not just for me and my family but to many others who are close to us. A year of loss -- loss of jobs, loss of youthful romance, loss of close friends, loss of parents, even the unthinkable loss of a child. The loss has followed us right into the final week of the year as we prepare to say goodbye to the parent of a close friend on Friday. Loss is a part of it, but its been a lot for a single 12-month period. As a result, I say as forcefully as I know how: Good riddance, 2014. May I never see the likes of your kind again.
