Its been a week or so since I released my last raptor from the Carolina Raptor Center. And its always fun to post my videos and pics when Im doing that. But today Ive got another rescue. So, Im sitting on my bed doing paperwork, when I hear Sofie in the other room with her particular and special meow that can only mean that she has something alive in her mouth, and shes bringing it into the house to present to me. Normally its a lizard. Sometimes its a vole or a mouse. But this time, before I could get up to see, she comes around the corner with a dove in her mouth :( @&%$@#! What are ya gonna do? So... Im jumping up to get it from her, and of course... like always... she lets go. So I have a dove freaking out in my hallway. Im hoping its not going to hit a fan, and its flying down the hall... cruising through the kitchen... out the other side of the kitchen... the cats suddenly go into cougar mode, going crazy doing spectacular jumps to try to re-catch it again... Im running around making dove sounds... and general mayhem ensues. So the dove lands on one high window sill, and knocks over a ceramic statue... amazingly I catch it before it shatters on the ground. She then flies to the other window, and eventually calms down. Okay... first thing... cats outside! They didnt like that. But, it gave me a chance to let Dovie catch her breath. Finally I got up on a chair and gently got her down. A quick exam... nothing seems broken except a few missing wing feathers. Looks okay. I soothed her a bit, and finally took her outside to freedom. Another rescue! Hurray! I cant seem to get away from birds in need.
