Its been way too long. So good to get back to what Jessicas really do best. Today we explored the forest edge, cherry woods, and salt marsh with 40 first graders (not at the same time). Watched their brains making about a hundred connections a minute as they used their observations to understand patterns in what lives where. Edge discoveries: dragonflies, sulfurs, yellow rumped warblers, mourning doves. Cherry Woods discoveries: salamanders, sowbugs, worms, slugs, Salt Marsh discoveries: Mud. Mud. Mud. (Also cormorants, a great blue heron, ribbed mussels, snails, clams, and jellies). I let them bring home the mud. On their pants.
