Its bumper time, two for one night! I was talking about Mountain Music, and posted Frank Proffitts Pretty Crowin Chicken. I also spoke of the early migration of Scots song to the Appalachians. This - The Gairdner Child - is a Scottish folk ballad that isnt often heard, but listen to the lyrics - its all in there, an entire book of relationship, a condensed epic, including the harshest rebuke to the tendering of love that I know of in song. My version of this comes from the singing of Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger, but I couldnt find a recording of their duet, so this is Ewan on his own. Ill wish ye were away, away, Ill wish ye were away.
