Its dark out. Its dark in. Whats it all about? The answer to that question Would win. What it would win I dont know. Were all players in a show, And when the curtain falls I dont know What will happen Perhaps nothing. But still I sing Because it takes me Out of my head. Away from the dread About when the show is over. The lights are bright, And the audience is kind. They know nothing Of the troubled mind That occupies this space Just behind the microphone And when the lights go down Ill be alone Like I am right now Looking for comfort In a glass But this moment like every other Will pass, fleeting, Disappearing into the night, No matter what Ive done right Or wrong, it wont amount To anything but a brief expression That will fade away, Once heard perhaps but not lasting Its all temporary. But it is good, for the most part, Especially when it is matters of the heart, But these things are elusive, And nothing is conclusive, As much as I wish otherwise.
