Its fairly common knowledge that stress is not healthy. But an interesting follow-through question is, does ones social life have any effect on the bodys health? The answer is a resounding YES!!! Dr. Uchino, Associate Professor at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, did a review of 81 published studies and found that social support - the network of friends and family that helps one cope with stress - had a measurable positive effect on the immune system function. Its believed that love is an immune system nutrient while isolation and loneliness are counter to a healthy immune system. Just ones attitude toward life can mean the difference between being sick or well; it can even mean the difference between life and death. Studies show that optimists live longer. When pessimists put more positives into their lives, they have less stress and better health. Anything that lowers stress can prevent damaging changes to the immune system. In one study, cancer patients who completed a special course designed to make them more optimistic had stronger immune systems than those who didnt. These studies show that a network of positive friends along with an optimistic attitude is a booster to the immune system. So, besides consuming a healthy diet, getting proper rest and exercise, it is also important to be optimistic and to surround ones self with positive loving friends. youtube/watch?v=JksRzFL7FI8
