Its funny how much everyone, myself included was expecting the government to settle, or at least bargain with the teachers, before classes were supposed to start. We all knew, or said we knew this wouldnt happen. The government admitted they were going to starve the teachers out when they announced their $40 daycare bribe. They also tacitly admitted that they see public education as glorified daycare for working parents, and further, that they think said parents are fools, since that educational options stipend wont be paid until 30 days after the strike is settled. Also, the government has already been to court and lost over their unwillingness to bargain in good faith with the BCTF, and they are appealing that ruling now. So this will be a long and bitter dispute, people. The BC Liberals are copping style from Margaret Thatcher, and unlike the union, their pocket are our pockets.
