Its funny to me that people that didnt even attend cosmetology school share this and comment.. Because obviously they know what they are talking about.. The problem here sounds like lazy whiney students. Janitorial and retail duties are an incredibly important part of our education. Would you want to go to a salon where the workers didnt know how to clean properly? Because there are specific laws regarding the way we clean salons. And learning to retail not only helps the stylist make more money but always helps them explain up their clients what professional products will work best for them. (Yes, Im spilling the beans... The stuff you buy at the drug store is crap!) I did not go to La James but from what Ive been told by their students the attendance policies are quite similar to Fausts. That being said, I had to take three full weeks off plus extra appointment days for hip surgery and did not go over contract. It is near impossible to be actually sick enough to miss enough days to go over contract. When students start they are made fully aware of their scheduled graduation date. Obviously there are exceptions because of families/children. But they are the EXCEPTION, not the rule. Yes, there are truly grueling days when youre in school but takes those times two and thats what real salon days are like. If you cant cut it in school, you wont be able to cut in in the real world. And you should thank your school for showing you that. And as for high instructor turnover? I would never be an instructor at a cosmetology school! Why? Because I love to actually do hair myself! Those instructors give that up! They give up doing what they love to help the next generation of stylists learn. That means giving up doing a whole haircut for a few snips here and there. So yes, many realize that it is not for them, and I can totally understand that. Because its a sacrifice I cant imagine making. So my hat goes off to them! Everyone has their ups and downs with cosmetology school. But at least give them the respect they deserve!
