Its going to be a difficult day for social media, now that two officers are shot dead, and racists feel entitled to arguing their side. Racism has a new form these days. This is what happens when trust in law enforcement deteriorates. Obama, very wisely, warned as much. Because some individuals abuse their power, use illegal chokeholds, and because our judicial system seems to protect their indiscretions, the fragile faith in our system is jeopardized. And now, because some individuals react violently, whether because theyre fed up with injustice or because theyre simply insane, the system begins to fall apart. This is the militarization of law enforcement. This is what happens. Are you blind? The military fights an enemy. The police department serves and protects. But, the lines have become blurred. Some officers approach their work, as if theyre military, and as if American citizens are enemies. Our media instigates these perceptions, and so do you by posting racist articles blaming one side. We are all the problem. If we recognized that cops are merely citizens in uniform, and if cops chose to approach citizens less aggressively and not in a militarized fashion, we may be able to fix this. I just dont know. The amount of misinformation and distrust being substantiated over the web is overwhelming and disturbing. We are warring with ourselves here. Our faith in community is being undermined. Cops need to stick up for us (I CANT BREATHE) and we need to stick up for them too (RIP). This is not black and white. These are individuals, with experiences, functioning within a flawed system, styled like a Colisseum for our entertainment.
