Its great to see the overwhelming response to the #ALSchallenge (ALS = Motor Neuron Disease). At the beginning ill have to admit I thought people were just doing it for fun, but raising $25m so far is absolutely tremendous. Having spent 5 years researching ways to diagnose the onset of frontotemporal dementia earlier (20% of ALS sufferers do go on an endure effacement of cognitive functions), I know how hard it is to receive funding, the reason being that pharmaceuticals do not really see ALS to be profitable enough considering the low prevalence rate. But I guess for once people have transcended the individualistic, ego centric and selfish ways that modern society teaches us to allow a bit of human warmth to shine through!
