Did you know that in some part of the world tomorrow is known as Quasimodo Sunday? Traditionally new Christians were often baptised on Easter Day. And so the Latin Mass for the Sunday after Easter began with an address to the newly-baptised using the words of 1Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation - which in its Latin starts Quasi modo geniti infantes. Hence, Quasimodo Sunday. (Victor Hugos character took the name because as a baby he was found abandoned on the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral on that particular Sunday.) As the eighth day of Easter it is also known as Low Sunday or the Octave of Easter. At Stonelaw, this Sunday, we will be baptising Scott and Isla Fraser. And no, Im not going to compare those delightful babes to Hugos monster. However, there is something wonderfully appropriate about baptising in the shadow of the empty tomb, and we shall pray that they will grow up, as all of us should, to be like newborn babies craving the pure spiritual milk of the Word of God and maturing up in the way of salvation. You who are baptised into him, come and join us. You who are not, come and meet the risen Lord. Christ is indeed risen.
