Its hard to say if Im upset, angry, embarrassed, or all of the above right about now. Our 54-0 beat down at the hands of Manzano tonight was largely assisted by our lack of energy, lack of effort, lack of fortitude, and what seemed in some cases to be apathy. There is no on-the-field leadership of any kid on either side of the ball. We can make all of the excuses we want for what is taking place, but some of these kids really should be asked why theyve decided to play a sport if they are not going to play with any pride. The Manzano team we faced tonight wasnt a bad team, but it wasnt a team that we wouldnt have beaten if we played with any discipline, focus, and did not take plays off. They didnt have superior size, speed, or a punishing defense (we were able to run the ball and reached the red zone), but they displayed the desire to execute and the desire to beat us. We can debate about how we got to this point, but the solution lies in getting these kids to play for all the right reasons---boys and girls alike---and to take pride in whichever endeavors they undertake. Perhaps I grew up in a different time, but I cannot imagine playing without any pride or not playing to win. Come what may, HORNETS for LIFE!
