Its interesting how a project morphs. With an initial plan of making taco soup (15 minutes prep time), I just spent 4 hours in the kitchen. I didnt have any frozen browned ground beef to use in the soup, so I browned 10 pounds, used some in the soup, and put the rest in the freezer to use later. I wanted to use my time wisely while browning the beef, so I decided to declutter my kitchen counters. To make space for the bread, produce, etc. that were on the counter, I had to clean out my pantry. Oh, the long-expired items that I threw away! While I was doing this, my 14yo and 19yo periodically helped with things like stirring the meat, washing dishes, emptying the trash (twice), and organizing the cabinet where we keep cereal, pasta, etc. After we enjoyed our soup and the 19yo washed dishes, I cleaned the counters, which now hold only a toaster, a basket of dish towels, paper towels, napkins, bananas, and half of a 6-layer cake someone sent home with us from last nights Thanksgiving supper at church. Ive put all other snacks and produce in the freshly cleaned pantry, but Im leaving out the cake and bananas so they dont spoil unnoticed while the boys get used to going to the pantry rather than the counter for food. I. Am. Wiped. Out. I was tempted to go to bed at an amazingly early 8:30 . . . but I just remembered I have to finish preparing my lesson on the Romantic poets for my high school literature class in our homeschool co-op tomorrow. Maybe I should write an Ode to Multitasking to share with my students.
