Its is no secret that Singapore is a fan of Americanism. There are certainly many benefits and strengths. But watching the O Reilly show in fox news where he cited many American weaknesses.... many do reasonate with our current situation, let me paraphrase here- but watch video first: 1) Singaporean percieve their earning power continues to decline... 2) living cost has increased... not sure if it has doubled.. but i remember kopi cost 60 cents in 2005... now its 1.2 in some kopitiam 3) the cpf issue is a testimony for demand for financial support 4) not sure about what is our debt.. since there many talk abiut GIC and tesmasek losing money 5) we have the rise of very strong and influential social medias wjich are telling a very devastating Singapore weakness story coupled with foreign media like BBC preferring to stamp down Singapore new labour laws hence protecting and helping london as financial center to attract talent there.... medias are to help their own countries. ... only American and our media bite the hands that feeds them... 6) Singapore social weakness where selfish pursuit and narcissistic behaviour like those in hong lim park and NLB are on the rise in our secular society 7) we are addicted to the internet... to social media.. not willing to investigate beyond half truths or political affiliations 8) the relaxation on drug laws is taking life of its own.. as more are arrested... and more trying their luck crossing the causeway. .. WHEN A SOCIETY GOES SOFT ON EVIL DOERS IT BECOME WEAK. do you not find we are becoming weaker? 9) we going soft on our education system... kids on cyberspace... oh lets reduce competition... down play honour and success... no naming of top scorers (as if doing well and being at the top has become a crime)... 10) we have become an opinionated society since 2011... the center has become weaker and split... accentuated larger and wider dissent and challenges.. will our political gamers destroy one another? Beware we are not the 52nd state of America..nor are we part of Malaya (who do not want you) and surely not in Greater China.... no one to depend on... 11) the right see PAP has weaken and increasingly unable to hold its ground on growth... the left wants to sympathise and expand its space for more welfare linked policies as well anti foreign sentiments 12) we are more dependent on big governement who is unwilling to be big.... and increasingly coming out with excuses... 13) hence the have not is demanding more from the haves... eg more handouts... more this and that... 14) social media encourages more social justice and income distribution rather than self reliance... cpf is an example... enhanced by governements inability to justify its policy effectively... Is Singapore becoming.. if i dont have mine, i want yours??? We have a strong center... going soft ... instead of level playing field... we have adverse diversity and increasingly division in society though not in display but in the social psych... but what is worse is it has shifted our fundamentals... its worrisome. ... Hopefully the above pointers are noted by all parties and to put ourselves back in perspective and what is important to make Singapore strong, wealthy and relevant.
