Its late but so worth it.. Testimony Tuesday.. I wasn’t new to CrossFit. I had done many months worth of it, months prior to CrossFit 287. I had fallen in love with it. But being a broke college student drew me away from it. All my progress was lost after I shied away for 3 ½ months, living a life of eating, working, and having lazy fun. Once I graduated college and moved home, I discovered a life in turmoil. Where was I going next? What will I do for years to come? I was confused, lost, and unbelievably anxious for my own future to begin. I had known JRob before college; had been to his camps. I knew his programs were the real deal. Much to my surprise, he now had a huge gym! I often considered joining, but I was more focused on my problems rather than what I could do about it. Once I mustered it up, I made a trip up to JRob’s gym. I found that they had a CrossFit program! I was kind of excited! I talked to Dustin and Emery, the trainers for what I found was called CrossFit 287. I was surprised by how excited, eager, and open-armed they were for me to start working out with them. I immediately liked the environment. I definitely was nervous, though. I had gotten heavy in my sloth-like living, hitting a hefty 285 lbs. Granted, at 6’3”, I am not meant to be little, but that was much too heavy and unhealthy. I knew I would have the fundamentals, but I knew I wouldn’t show I had previous CrossFit experience. It was like starting all over again in strength, endurance, and cardio. But even with my previous experience, little did I know what awaited me. It did not take me long to see it. Growing up in a small town, I had experienced it before. This CrossFit box was a family, bonded through the struggles, soreness, and sacrifices that each and every member experienced, and like a family, were there for one another; to pick each other up; to push each other to do the best they could; to rise above every challenge as a team. I have been on two football squads, High School and College level. I thought I knew “close-knit”. And the best part: there was no hesitation to induct me as one of their own. They looked past my heavily-burdened body and saw a fire, a fire I knew they’ve seen before that each person who has come to them has had. It takes a fire and a drive to want to do CrossFit, and this family made sure to express that any and all can have it and succeed. Fast forward 5 months. There still is a smile and a cheer for me as I finish every workout of the day (WOD). There is still accomplishment and drive for more after every day. Every workout is filled with small personal victories, and every workout has a family who will cherish those victories with you. From my previous 285lb frame of looseness has an emerging new image, resting now at 255lbs and a much trimmer physique. There is still plenty more for me to expand and grow on, and I will never have to do it alone, not at CrossFit 287. I am providing three definitions to be read with this: Courage: The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain without fear. Steadfastness: Unwavering or determined in purpose Tenacity: Pertinacious; holding together These three words I feel are the most pertinent to any one’s experience. If you provide the courage and steadfastness, you will achieve your goals. And the tenacity of CrossFit 287 insures you will never do it alone. CrossFit 287 provides a one of a kind experience, for a lifetime of health, friends, and attainment. Clint Moore
