Its marathon week in Sacramento. I volunteer on the Sacramento Running Association Board, which helps put on events like CIM. One of the coolest perks is getting to hand out medals at the mini marathons we do each year at childrens hospitals. Today, we hung out with the kids at UC Davis. We brought along 2 elite runners from the SRA Elite Team and the kids ran, rolled and were carried from start to finish. There is nothing that will make you more appreciative for what you have than spending 10 seconds in a wing of sick kids. Oddly, its not the kids who make you sad. Its the parents. Their stress is enormous and it doesnt end after 26.2 miles. But, for 20 minutes this morning, while chaos ruled the halls, there were a lot of smiles, a lot of laughs, and a lot of medals handed out to families who wage their own marathon each day. Look for the story on our early evening news. And, to the medical staff on floor 7, youre kind of awesome.
