Its my favorite holiday of the year (always has been), yet my current neighborhood has no youngsters and is tucked away in a hidden nook of a quiet street. As a result, no costumed doorbell-ringers. Halloween was once an evening of enjoying classic scary movies on TV while the candy flew out the door as fast as the oooohs and aaahhhs over the awesome costumes. Now, I get maybe one ringer, and its either a snot-teenager too cool for a costume, or its the neighbor looking for his cat. Next year, Im showering the house in orange light, renting a fog machine, cranking up the Disney Halloween Album and pasting large arrows on the asphalt from Waco street which say, THIS WAY FOR CANDY. If the nearby residents dont assume Im a serial killer, itll be a great Halloween once again. Until then, its just me and my unmolested pile of Kit Kats. BRING THE SWEET, COMFORTING EMBRACE OF SUGAR AND CHOCOLATE! (And have a happy and safe holiday out there.)
