Its not a hard concept. First, Marvin gets fed his (admittedly boring) special urinary-tract-friendly diet on this side of the baby gate, because 2 near-death bladder emergencies in 2 years is 2 too many. (And the weight loss is working; hes down 4 pounds, as well.) Then Daphne gets fed the good (= stinky) stuff on the far side of the baby gate, because an elderly, partially blind, skinny wasting kitty (whos, fortunately, now coming back from that) should be able to eat in peace, without having to worry about fending off someone 4 times her size. Finally, back to this side of the baby gate, where Spencer, whos got no special issues, and who can defend his own food just fine, tyvm, gets the good stuff. Its straightforward, until Marvin figured out that Daphne was not finishing her food, and that if he kept vigil by the baby gate, he got first crack at it after she left. Im actually pleased that he put that together. But now that Daphnes on the mend, shes finishing her own food again, and--while Marvin stands vigil--Spencers finishing his own food, and then moving, unimpeded, to Marvins bowl for lagniappe. So Marvins ultimately ending up with nothing through his own actions, and its remarkable how long its taking him to figure this out.
