Its not easy to find happiness in ourselves, but its not possible to find it anywhere else. Agnes Replier Have you ever had times in your life when youve felt that happiness has eluded you? You know its out there somewhere, but all you can feel is the struggle. We all go through times like that without realizing that were looking in the wrong place. Weve made the mistake of thinking that happiness is the result of outward conditions. But if happiness is the result of conditions, then we dont have any real control over being happy or not! We wake up in the morning and wonder whether the Universe is going to allow us to be happy today. When we put it that way, its pretty clear that were giving away our power. And who wants to do that? Especially when its not necessary. So how do we deal with conditions that we dont particularly like? I like the advice that our friend, singer/songwriter Daniel Nahmod incorporated into his powerful song, Love Is My Decision. He writes, Once I decide to change my mind.... Hes reminding us that we often make these things too complicated. We can make a decision to be happy, to find the glimmer of happiness in the situation, no matter how faint it seems at first. Our power in the situation is the power to make that decision. We can decide to whine and grumble, or we can decide to find the happiness in us and take that to the situation. Enjoy the fall season!
