Its not my money, he said as he ordered a second round of drinks - TopicsExpress

Its not my money, he said as he ordered a second round of drinks for everyone. He had a business spending card. He had a limit on how much he could spend on any given business trip. And he made sure he spent his limit. At some point he chastised me for spending so little saying that the discrepancy in our spending would get him in trouble. We both had the same spending limit. What is it that makes some of us want to extravagantly spend that which is not ours? Why do some of us pay the asking price when the company is paying but negotiate the last penny when we are the ones paying? Why do we keep our car in good shape but not the company car? Its because something inside of us tells us that whatever belongs to the company, to the organization, and sometimes, to a friend, is not ours. This is the lie we tell ourselves. In Luke 16:12, Jesus talks about this lie saying that what we think is not ours is actually ours in disguise. Its the test we need to pass before we can have our own wealth. He says, And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own? If you dont know how to manage a company car why should you get one of your own? If you dont care about your boss bottom line why should you get a business of your own? Jesus is saying you dont deserve your own property if you are careless with other peoples property, period. How are we treating the things that have been entrusted to us? How should we be treating company property and company time? We should be treating them like students in school learning how to manage our own. And when we graduate in this school of being faithful with other peoples property, we will get our own share from God himself. Happy treating other peoples property like your own! Amon
