Its now been 1 week since Michael had surgery and things could not - TopicsExpress

Its now been 1 week since Michael had surgery and things could not go better. His first 48 hours were as bad as we imagined with his pain control having to be carefully monitored but after that its been pretty fast moving. So it started on Sunday where his platelets were down and had to have a transfusion and it also made them think that he has an infection somewhere. After doing many tests on his blood, nothing still has grown so they are under the assumption that its just due to his body fixing itself. His platelets have been fine since but they still have him on triple antis and 1 antifungal just in case. His wound got quite red and was oozing puss so they took a sample of it to see if there was an infection in that and it too has come back negative. You can tell that hes been in tolerable pain while they have been weaning off the morphine which was at times hard to watch because we couldnt just fix it for him. And theres no sound when he was trying to cry because of the tube down his throat. :( On Monday they took the tube out and put him back onto CPAP. I was lucky enough to be there at the time and and this made Michael so much happier. As I was leaving the hospital the CPAP pressure was 7 and oxygen was on 25%. On Wednesday they had started him on feeds again. 1ml every 3 hours as he still hadnt used his bowel but he hadnt had anything in his stomach for a week too and I think it helped but he pooed! He has finally been able to accomplish what most of us take for granted! It was very exciting to hear that. The catheter was also taken out so hes now looking like a baby again. Yesterday he was looking wonderful. Hes finally 3kgs and is up to 6ml feeds every 3 hours with that increasing by 3ml every 12 hours. He was also farting on me which was wonderful! Now if anyone else was to try that and get away with it then watch out! You have been able to fart for longer then Michael.... Hes just on air now too and well know soon if hes going back onto high flow for feeds... We are just not wanting to push too much too soon. :D *Do you all remember when I asked you to pray for Michaels room buddy as he was extremely sick and rushed to RCH? Well Im so proud to tell you all that he had the surgery done and recovered so well that he is now home with his parents where he belongs. Your prays and thoughts for this little guy have really touched and helped the family through their time of despair so thank you!*
