Its officially my 247th day of sobriety. I had an idea to go back and write a detailed, side-by-side piece to F. Alex Johnsons (Drunk Stuntmen, Young At Heart Chorus) incredible blog Fearless by Default. Its his frightening, open, factual, massive, funny, tear-jerking, incredible account of his own travels with this thing we have. I remember, when first sober, he went out of his way to tell me that I was an inspiration to him. At the time, I had been sober since 2002 (I was drink/drug-free for 7 years). When I hit bottom 248 days ago, one of the people I talked to was AJ. He was instantly right there for me. This weekend, he dropped of his new CD for me. One that he started writing as a sober man. The opening lines of the record are an introduction to that person. I am in the midst of writing my first sober record. I was clean when I released The Killing Card in 07, but I was hardly sober. AJ and I have been paving a parallel story. In so many ways. World travelers getting paid to make music. Falling down. Getting picked back up, and picking ourselves back up. Safe to say that, today, he is an inspiration to me. Both as a peer and a true friend. I have a special love in my heart for this guy. I truly do. Do yourself a huge favor and go pick up his brilliant new CD. So, about that side-by-side piece with his blog... Not going to do it today. Because I just read AJs account of his 247th day and its a story of him in DC. Making music for a living. This weekend coming up I will be in DC. Making music for a living. Its only fair for me to re-start my blog (something I have been thinking about doing) while on my short tour with John. This story just keeps swirling... Im going to keep reading :)
