Its ok Everyone - Ive just written a letter to the Editor at Top Gear - it reads Dear Top Gear, I am wondering whether or not you and your team would be available at some point this summer so that we, the residents of Gwynedd might employ you’re bridge building skills? You see we have a bridge, called Pont Briwet, that cuts out a 7 mile detour and allows the lifeblood of tourism that feeds the area we live in flow freely from A – B. The problem is that the council decided there was a need to upgrade said bridge due to age and general safety concerns (oh, and the fact that they were told they could have millions of £’s of European money if they did so). This is a good idea, no one locally disputes that, however, a simple Google search will reveal a torrid of misinformation leaving the public here confused, angry and upset and needing to take matters in to our own hands. Although grabbing axes and setting sticks on fire followed by a march to independence square to oust the council (which would no doubt be referred to by the media as ‘the welsh spring’) was mooted, it seems that a much better solution would be to write to top gear. The current situation is that a temporary bridge was promised by May, bearing in mind that the bridge has been closed ‘unplanned’ and until further notice for over a year, however, the council have now decided that a better, more sensible idea would be to utilise a traffic convoy management system to guide the traffic around 4 miles of the 7 mile detour. This turns what was a 2 min drive, into an hours long haul slog at an average speed of around 5mph. I appreciate that you might well be very busy, so, if you can’t come down to help perhaps you could at least forward the designs of the Bamboo bridge that you built of the River ‘Cock’ on to our esteemed Councillors at Gwynedd Council and perhaps this will help to show them the light? If there is another way that you might be able to help, perhaps incorporate a novel solution into the next series (ferry boat? Rocket powered zip line capable of carrying a car?), we’d welcome it here – also I wouldnt worry about causing any damage from a wild and wonderful idea the council have already destroyed a huge electricity pylon and destabilised the existing bridge, so I’m pretty confident that anything goes. Many thanks,
