Its quite interesting how society judges appearance even in 2014. Just because you have longer hair or a few piercings doesnt mean you work at McDs or a head shop. Most people would not look at me and think physicist but they probably would say musician, as is often the case. I dont think they usually assume I know about space and philosophy. I hope in the coming age we learn to realize that we can never be so sure about any one person based on a quick external judgement. You never know what deep, interesting conversation you could get into with the greasy old mechanic at the shop or the skateboarder at the park. The trash man on Wednesday night be working for a PhD in biochemistry. Plenty of people I know who look like skaters or pot heads make 60$k + a year and have tons of education. Point being, its always helpful to give everyone you meet a good chance. You never know what great times and conversations youre missing out on due to judging people on outward appearance.
