Its really fascinating to me that in our culture, the people who are hailed as the best and most brilliant at their craft, and rightfully so, how many of them have a devastating ending. I think about Judy Garland, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Im sure theres more. These people were all incredibly gifted and stood above the others in their field and privately, the real them, was deeply oppressed. It just makes me think, about allot of things. One is, this insatiable desire for fame we see in our youth today is, I believe, a slippery downward slope. Im not trying to diagnose Robin Williams, or anything like that!! Im just saying, is it a coincidence that seemingly those we revere the most in pop culture are also the ones we watch dissolve from the inside out? Again, Im not trying to solve Robin Williams problem. I understand depression abounds in Christians & non alike. I just find it very sad & scary that it seems like the worlds brightest stars struggle so deeply & fizzle to a terrible demise. Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. (1 John 2:15-17 NLT)
