Its so funny how moments in your life come back to you at night, or at other moments, and you realize how important human connections are and how strange , magical and lovely the circle of life is. I remember 7 years ago, after my double mastectomy, a gentle nurse, a Black soft-spoken woman was holding my hand in recovery. She asked if I had taught at Martin because she had read my chart. I blearily saved yes. She said 20 years ago I had sent a note home praising her son for being a kind, wonderful young man. She said they kept that note in the family Bible. To be honest, I didnt even remember it or her son. And Im not trying to say Im so wonderful. HOWEVER, it was so amazing how much we were connected and how 30 seconds of my time, that I dont even remember, meant that I had some angel holding my hand in my darkest time. Life is weird. But isnt it a beautiful journey sometimes?
