Its the half way point and a clean sweep by the HCC Saturday teams as they all won. The 3rd XI played Sale CC for a change this week. Andy Dalton proved everyone who thought he was a useless tosser wrong. He won one and decided to bowl. Sale made 112 and (according to the HCC correspondent at the scene) this was despite bowling Billy White at one end and Ron Weasley at the other. Jayy Sandlands picked up 6 wickets. Tom Wakefield, Will Appleyard and Daniel Williams all making contibutions saw us home in 31.4 overs. Special mention must go to Alex Moore who played on despite a chest infection which made him sound like Darth Vader. Good work Moorsey. The twos set off for their overland express trip to them there hills to play Pott Shrigley. The home team winning the toss, decided to bat. Perhaps not a wise decision as they were bowled out for 38 in no time. Mark France picking up 4 and Ooh Gary Davies 5-3 including another hat-trick. Frag and Jordan Sealey got within five runs before Jord got out trying to finish it in one shot no doubt. A nine wicket win. Frag 31no. Shortly after tea the twos were back at Clay Lane to watch the 1st XI pull off another win in the reverse fixture. Gledders won the toss and guess what. He decided to bat! The flags were raised, a fanfare was heard, the champagne corks were popped and our young players ran around in transports of delight. Openers Rob Coombes and Jack Moran set about putting a competitive total on the board. At one end Jacko. Watchful, playing each ball on its merits with aplomb. At the other, some comedian who swung his blade with gay abandon and rode his luck like Lester Piggot. Not pretty. Hilarious in the most part, dropped at least 4 times, Coombsey got 21. Jacko and Big Ben Leigh put on over 60 before Jack was out of 57. Jack Taylor 21, Jonny Phipps, Ben Twemlow, Joe Goodier and Thomas Hackett all making healthy contributions in the total of 208. We did manufacture two run outs in the hunt for quick runs. Jonny really should consider who hes batting with before calling for a sharp single. In one case Gledders. In the other Pickers. Called through he weighed anchor, left the dock, got half way before trying to turn like the QE2 to make his ground to be run out by at least three nautical miles. Ben Istead had a teenage strop on and the Pott Shrigley opener found out about it from ball one as his timbers were knocked over. From then on runs were hard to come by, even though Gledders set attacking fields with the batsmen having close company throughout. Ben finished with 3-34 and Tommy Hackett 2-12. Blistering pace from Tommy H, a full pint. Gledders 5-40 as the visitors were knocked over for 102. A huge 106 run win. So at the half way stage table toppers and moving further ahead as the chasing pack lost or drew.
