Its true people can disappoint us. Animals are abandoned, abused, neglected or simply ignored. And then there are people like Reb and Mary Anne. These two drove from Mississippi to reclaim Etta Mae, who was found last month as a stray here in our county and had obviously been neglected. She had a microchip, so we were able to contact the people at the Mississippi shelter where she was adopted to someone who had moved to Santa Fe (animal control officers are investigating the case). Mary Anne had rescued Etta Mae from a different shelter and worked with the Tunica shelter to find her a home. When they found out this 9-year-old was here in Santa Fe, they drove out and picked her up today to take her to caring individuals, where she will eventually find a new home. Mary Anne and Reb have rescued countless animals, and they say its not easy in Mississippi, but they are willing to go the distance.
