It’s Morphing Time! A Bible Study Examining Jacob’s Encounters with God (Part 2 of 10) Jacob gathers up some rocks to be used as pillows to lay his head on. The laying of his head upon the rocks can symbolize resting on the “True Rock”, who we understand to be God/Jesus (Deuteronomy 32:4, 15, 31; 2 Samuel 22:2, 32; Psalm 18:2, 31; Psalm 92:15; Psalm 31:3; Psalm 71:3; Psalm 61:2 & 1 Corinthians 10:4). Every born-again, blood washed and tongue-talking redeemed child of God will have to make a conscious decision to rest in/on and serve God. Joshua’s words to the children of Israel are still resonating strongly in the ears of the modern day saints that is if we have an ear to hear what the Spirit is saying. Quoting Joshua … 14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD (JOSHUA 24:14-15). Jesus reiterated this same truth in the Gospel of John … 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). Then as Jacob is resting he has a heavenly vision. He sees a ladder that extends from earth to heaven with angels ascending and descending, and then at the top of the ladder God makes an appearance. It is my belief the ladder is representing access to an open heaven. Referencing Jesus’ statement that the Kingdom of God is at hand, only after we repent (Matthew 3:2; 4:17); humble ourselves; pray; and seek the face of God; and turn from our wicked ways. Then God will hear from heaven, and forgive our sins, and will heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). This leads to further evidence that it was always the intention of God to have continual communion with His creations, but our sinful nature always caused separation (a breach that could not be bridged until the crucifixion, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ). Review Genesis Chapter 3 concerning the original sin of the first man Adam; Exodus Chapters 3 and 19 revealing God’s order of worship and their preparation to accomplish His order; and lastly Scriptures indicating the second Adam (Jesus Christ) repairing the breach caused by the first (Psalm 60:1-2; Isaiah 30:26; Isaiah 58:12; 1 Corinthians 15:45-57 & Hebrews 10:10-14). The angels who are ascending up the ladder are carrying the prayers and the fragrance coming from the scented smoke of incense emanating from the fire on the altar which continually burns our (The Body of Christ) sacrifices of praise into the presence of God. The angels making their descent down the ladder are leaving from the presence of God with His response (Matthew 7:7-8; 2 Peter 2:5; Hebrews 13:15; Isaiah 65:24; Exodus 29:42 & Exodus 30:1-10). © Robert G.
