It’s Not So Black And White (R.I.P Eric Garner) You can find the video performance of this poem on my channel: youtube/ sulibreezy I know, I’m gonna regret doing this, because I promised myself I wouldn’t get involved in the politics Keep it about the art Suli, only speak on an issue after you’ve fully acknowledged it! Don’t get carried away by emotion, stick to the logic script. So when Trayon fell hoodie up I just wrote a single Facebook post, which I felt was good enough. Then Mike brown last month had my blood boiling up. Sitting in LA, watching the crowds swarm I told myself “SULI,KEEP IT SHUT!!”. Watched a few trials, then I had to stopped keeping up. Then when Eric Garner told the policeman he’s couldn’t breath, as he crushed his neck in between his authority and his knee, but still got a verdict of “Not Guilty”. I realised there’s only thing I needed to address and maybe it’s coz I watched too many YouTube videos of MalCOLM X, but the phrase “A man that stands for nothing, will fall for anything”, became engrained in my head But if I didn’t say this, it’s one thing I would regret…. I needed to clarify that this Eric Garner case, is not just about race. Ye I am anger black boy, dejected by system that had no respect for my case. But, that is not where I am coming from today, so please don’t look at it that way. I just want to make the world aware, that this is not just about race. It’s not just a black or white thing, neither is it so black and white. The only reason they allow us openly oppose the violence stating it’s racially motivated, because that is the only way we remain segregated. So a young male of opposite racial background or ethnicity feels as though he can’t relate,or that his not his place,or he doesn’t have a stake, to make a stand in this war that is being waged. Because it makes everyone else feel like as long as they are not black they are safe. You see if we just acknowledged that it’s not but it’s the lack of respect from those in authority, towards those they have sworn to protect morally. Particularly, those coming from a background of poverty. This is not just about the value of black life, but the value of life Hashtag Blacklivesdon’tmatter…..all life matters. And if as a race…..as a HUMAN RACE. We can’t unite around this fact Then I don’t know. Because, it wouldn’t just mean that America hasn’t progressed from 400 years ago. But we as a species have set ourself back millions. This is really about justice Isn’t that why laws were made? To police men? So in these instances why were they not made applicable when the perpetrators were police men? The Irony. When did just is, become just was? Just was for the benefit of those is power. Just was to apply to those who cant speak against it? Because there jus isnt, just “us” in justice. Because, looking out for just us is an injustice. Justice is about community, not just the implications of how something affects you and me…….It’s unity. And that’s justice……because it just is. And even if I wanted to agree that it was racially motivated attack Then it’s a pure fact That in the eyes of the system, you can say then that we are all black. When I say “R.I.P”. I don’t just mean “Rest in piece”. I mean rewind it please,so we can remain in piece. Peace. #UOSB
