It’s hard to imagine that hunger can come to the point that people will cut the bark from trees and swallow the pieces in order to make their stomachs feel full. They regurgitate the pieces of bark at the close of the day to use them again tomorrow when they are faced with no food again. We are aware that many people in the Miskito villages have gone up to 30 days without food in previous times and this year things seem to be heading in the same direction. This is beyond hunger – we’re into starvation. We have seen an 11 year old who weighed 37 pounds and a 7 year old who weighed 11 pounds. It’s not that parents don’t care about their children; they simply can’t feed them under certain circumstances. Due to earlier widespread drought in Central America, some mistakes in crop management and greater than normal rainfall in this rainy season, the situation is critical in northeast Nicaragua. In speaking with our primary contact in Kisalaya just three days ago, we were advised that a number of families in the community have lost their rice crops due to the incredible amount of rain that has recently fallen. Now there is no crop upon which to depend for sustenance until the bean harvest in March. Planting the beans can’t come soon enough, but it can’t begin until the rainy season has passed, which is early December. The people have asked for our help to provide them with these seeds and we have agreed to ask you for your help. We estimate it will take $7,500 at today’s prices to purchase what is needed to plant beans for this community of roughly 2,000 people. Giving a one-time gift will help solve the immediate, emergency need of planting. Will you please pray about this? If God so leads you to help alleviate the slow starvation, you may send a check made out to “Seeds And Love Together, Inc.” and mail it to our post office box. Write the word “beans” on the memo line. Our address is Seeds And Love Together, Inc., PO Box 16656, Wilmington, NC 28408. Or, to our “Go Fund Me” page under Seeds And Love Together, Inc. for this emergency need where you can use your credit card to donate. All gifts are fully tax deductible as we are a fully certified, non-profit, 501-(c)-3 tax exempt organization incorporated in North Carolina. And, you can be assured that every penny of every donation you make will go directly to the purchase of beans. There are NO administrative fees involved as all of our team are volunteers who receive no compensation. We know this immediate need is not the total answer and, in December and January, we will be on site and begin working directly with the community of Kisalaya to develop an agricultural plan to expand their crop development to minimize and/or eliminate hunger like this in the future. Thanks in advance for helping us to feed the children.
