It’s the last day of National Nutrition Week and our nutritional topic for today is…. Salt The misconception that salt is bad has gone on long enough. Once again it’s not that salt is bad, it’s what they have done to salt. It has been refined and all the minerals taken out except for sodium and chloride, then the refined salt is bleached and an anti-caking agent added. If it is iodised, a processed mineral is added. The problem with this iodine is that it evaporates out of the salt over time and becomes an obsolete ingredient. Our water and salt balance is very important in the body - just a 2% change has the ability to make us not well and a 5% change can create muscle weakness. Signals that this balance is out may result in red watery eyes, runny nose, sniffling and/or a tickle or irritation in the throat, causing one to cough. These signs are often seen as hay fever rather than a water salt imbalance. Using a top quality salt like the Changing Habits Seaweed Salt is like taking a multimineral. This salt is not refined so it can contain up to 75 minerals naturally found in salt. We also add some seaweed which is high in iodine and iron - this is not an isolate or mined iodine but rather one within the plant. Seaweed is alkalising and has other components that offer more minerals to the body.
