Ive been away for almost a year now and have been out of touch for the most part with both family and friends. I have not forgotten any of you. Especially my politically active friends here on facebook. I did not plan to stay in Maui this long, but one thing has lead to another and here I stay. It is now time to start speaking and sharing. There is so much work to be done here in Maui. Maui is being publicly represented as a paradise for tourism. The other side of that coin is that there is a genocide going on out here against the native Hawaiians. From GMO to unsustainable economy, to bull dozing homes that were acquired by right of their king, and families being evicted to become homeless. These are the people I have come to know and love. The tactics that are being used to evict these families do not fall short of poisoning their water, arrests and outright assassination. No longer are the people allowed to live off the land. Tourism is owned by corporations, so money does not flow back to the locals. The rain forests are in trouble and the water is being stolen right in front of the people. The waterfalls I enjoyed only two years ago are but a trickle now. It is a tragic situation, for a culture that still practices ALOHA (love). One that our history already understands too well when implemented against the West Indians, only it is happening now. I am doing what I can to help. Learning as I go.
