Ive been communicating with relatives on both sides of the family between the union of Tony Davis and Dionne Patterson that produced little Elijah. Several relatives from both sides learned of the tragedy that affected their families on my page. Heres how I got involved. One of Tonys relatives reached out to me this morning with the sad story about Dionne and Tony. The relative was disappointed because the mainstream media wasnt sharing any information about the tragedy. They knew I had a lot of East Cleveland FB friends and asked if Id share. Dionne and Tonys relatives didnt know each other. So Tonys family was trying to reach out to Dionnes family. The relative thought Id make the connection between the two families. Early information is early information and facts change as more is revealed. I now know that the Tonys sister, Vernita Ashanti, had just been dropped off by them 15 to 20 minutes before the accident, and that she and Dionne were picking out hair. Vernita was going to do Dionnes hair. I know that the other two passengers were Tonys sister and her childs father. So, in essence, they were all in-laws. A family. I know that Dionne was enjoying her day off and that Tony was on his way to work. He was going to drop off Dionne, his sister and his brother-in-law at their home and keep it moving. He had to be at work at 9 p.m. The other three in-laws were going to hang out together and watch movies. Ive been told Tonys car had brake and transmission problems. Shit. My car has brake problems. Lots of my cars have had brake problems, strut problems, transmission problems and you name it. I overstand. Ive also been told the liquor bottles were holiday empties. I also now know that Tony was in shock from the impact of the accident, and that he was holding Dionne crying after he got out of the car he was driving. She was unconscious. The airbags may not have deployed. Dionne was ejected from the car. I also know he wasnt so drunk he didnt know Dionne was dead. He was in jail when he learned from police that Dionne was dead. Look folk. Im in new territory. One of Tonys relatives knew that Dionnes relatives and their own relatives didnt know what had happened. Tonys relative is a FB friend and reached out to me for a little assistance. Dionne was raised on 5th Street in EC. I have hundreds of EC Facebook friends. The relative understood that everybody aint got everybodys telephone number. Do we really know the boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands and wives of all our 2nd cousins, and their children? I knew this would be an uncomfortable topic because of the pain of loss. Believe me I had no intention of causing Dionne and Tonys family any harm. I shared the information I got early in the day. Im sharing the information Ive been given later in the day. Vernita said they were normal people. They hung out together. They went to restaurants together. They worked. They took and take care of their families. Aint nobody told me about a dark side between this couple. Both had jobs. Lots of people love them. What happened is a sudden and unexpected tragedy. I hope the families can come together without anger before the funeral and talk.
