Ive been connected to a lot of institutions with problematic politics. I think its naive to believe that theres any formal or even informal institution without a great many issues. I suppose one can both be an idealist who believes we can put pressure on institutions to change WHILE being clear about the need to protest injustices. Hey... I vote in America...knowing that there are many issues with our two-party system and its approximation of any true and just democracy. I talk about this in theory as the late Jose Munozs notion of disidentification. To hate something because you love it so much. So while I love World Cup soccer, Im having some HUGE issues with FIFA and their exploitative and greedy politricks. But I suppose we could say the same about NBA, which I enjoy... and a lot of other things. Is it possible or even ethical to use these moments as a platform to expose the gross injustices?
