Ive been following the developments regarding Crimea with a great deal of interest because of the international concern it caused... The history of the region is interesting; it is a land with no native people since the 6th cemetery it has changed hands multiple times all the way up to modern day. Must recently Crimea was recognized as an autonomous territory within the Soviet Union until after the fall of the USSR when it was incorporated into the newly independent Ukraine BUT was still recognized as being an autonomous entity. Fast forward to now - the Ukraine is a state of revolution divided by ethnic loyalties; many of the people in the western part of the country are in favor of partnering with the European Union while an ethnically Russian majority in Crimea support joining the Russian Federation. The elected leaders of Crimea CHOSE to sign the annexation agreement!
